Doug is one of the original founders of Lumis and created the company to address the global issue of making medicine safer having witnessed firsthand the complications related to preventable medical errors. He brings over 15 years of experience in healthcare simulation and intelligent systems to the company. He developed and patented Lumis’ core platform during his time at the University of Pittsburgh as part of his PhD thesis. Prior to forming Lumis, he worked alongside leading academic institutions conducting usability testing of innovative healthcare simulators and building immersive educational exhibits at local museums. At Lumis, he oversees all engineering, innovation, and manufacturing processes along with being the liaison with technology partners.

Doug received his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh and has significant experience in Robotics and Intelligent Systems from Carnegie Mellon University.

In his spare time, Doug likes to build things, from home construction to welding, laser cutting and 3D printing and is a whiskey connoisseur.
